2009 Ride Calendar

April Saturday Rides start at 10:00 a.m. at Lakeside Center (LSC)

April

April 3  — President’s First Bike Ride. Official beginning to the biking season! Dust off your bike, pump up your tires, and join Jim Coady, club president, for a ride to Adventureland. About 25 miles—ride a shorter out-and-back option if you’d like to start the season with fewer miles.

April 6  — Taco Tuesday at the Yankee Clipper. We will meet the first Tuesday of every month after the ride at the Yankee Clipper for great tacos!

April 10 —Loop Ride. Join us for a favorite loop through Slater-Huxley-Cambridge. About 25 miles, shorter option turns around at Slater. Larry is the ride leader.

April 17  — Mayor’s Annual Ride for Trails. Cruise Des Moines. Meet in front of the Des Moines City Hall, SW corner of the parking lot, ride starts at 10 am. Wear your club jersey. Not doing the MAR? Meet at the Lake-side Center and choose your own route.

April 24  — Breakfast Ride. Polk City has a new coffee shop on the town square. 18 miles. Longer route to Madrid for those that would like more miles. Tena is ride leader.

May Saturday rides start at   9:00 a.m.

May 1 — Ankeny to Woodward Ride. Approximately 60 miles, but there is an optional shorter route. Larry is the ride leader.

May 4 — Taco Tuesday at the Yankee Clipper. We will meet the first Tuesday of every month after the ride at the Yankee Clipper for great tacos!

May 8 — Baxter Ride. An interesting route with miles and hills for those tuning up for TOMRV and other early summer rides. About 80 miles. 100 mile option for those willing and able. For a shorter 40 mile route, catch the group at the Bondurant trailhead for a fairly flat ride to Baxter on a paved trail. Randy is the ride leader.

May 15 — Sugar Shack Ride. The ride leader will guide the group to the Farmer’s Market so that we can sup-port Bike To Work Week. Then we will head through the streets of Des Moines to the AE Dairy and admire the tulips before we ride east to catch the trail to Altoona for lunch at the Sugar Shack, about 35-40 miles. Larry is the ride leader.

May 22 — Penny’s Pieathlon begins at the Waukee YMCA at 7:30 a.m. and goes until noon. Bike approxi-mately 40 miles or swim or run 1-5 K’s. Support the fight against breast cancer. Visit pieathlon.org for more information. There will be a ride starting at the LSC for those not wishing to ride in the Pieathlon. Route is Rider’s Choice.

May 29 — Farmer’s Market Ride. Ride to the Des Moines Farmer’s Market, about 50 miles. Take the chal-lenge and ride up to the Soldiers & Sailors Monument - 5 times! Del and Larry are the co-ride leaders.

May 31— Memorial Day Flag Ride. Main route will be Slater - Huxley - Cambridge (40-45 miles) with optional loop through Maxwell & Farrar (and maybe even Bondurant). Patriotic attire encouraged.

June

June Saturday rides start at 9:00 a.m.

June 1  — Taco Tuesday at the Yankee Clipper. We will meet the first Tuesday of every month after the ride at the Yankee Clipper for great tacos!

June 5  — Martensdale Ride. Ankeny down to Farmer’s Market and on to the Great Western Trail to Martens-dale. About 70 miles total or return from Farmer’s Market for less than 40 miles. Kathleen is ride leader.

June 12 — Big weekend for organized rides. Choose from: Tour of the Raccoon, Ankeny to Jefferson and re-turn on June 14. TOMRV—Tour of the Mississippi River Valley—a challenging 2-day ride with serious hills. BRAMCO—Bike Ride Around Madison County. See www.bikeiowa.com for details on organized rides. Other-wise, meet at the Lakeside Center and the group will choose a route.

June 19 — Runnels Ride. About 70 miles with lots of hills. Vance is ride leader.

June 26 Join us at 8:00 AM at the Lake Side Center for a ride to Baxter. The ride to Baxter will coincide with the Bondurant ride called the BikinBondu ride, which starts at 9:00 at Cory's Irish Pub in Bondurant.

July

July Saturday rides start at 9:00 a.m.

July 3 — Hickory Park Ride OR Slater Parade Ride. Choose either a ride to Ames to enjoy a fantastic lunch at Hickory Park Restaurant, or ride up the trail to the Fourth of July Parade in Slater. Hickory Park Ride is about 50 miles. Jim Coady is ride leader. The ride to the Slater parade is about 30 miles. Jim Lennie is ride leader.

July 5 — Meet at LSC at 9:00 a.m. for Rider’s Choice.

July 6 — Taco Tuesday at the Yankee Clipper. We will meet the first Tuesday of every month after the ride at the Yankee Clipper for great tacos!

July 10 — Farmer’s Market Ride with optional extra miles.

July 17 — Ledges State Park Ride. Ride trails and roads to a nice park. Approximately 70 miles. Larry is ride leader.

July 24 — Rider’s Choice.

July 25-31—RAGBRAI.

July 31 — Rider’s Choice.
